This week is an active week for us all…
Tuesday is election day! Remember to come out and use your voice to vote! Use this link to check out election information. https://www.elections.virginia.gov/index.html. CCLA team members will be out at the various poll locations in Cumberland and Powhatan to show our support. We will have the petition tables set up for signatures at the required 40′. See you tomorrow at the polls!
Sunday is our next Community Townhall Meeting! From 3:00 to 5:00 at The Cumberland County Community Center, located at 11 Davenport Road at 3:00 pm. We will be honoring our local veterans in appreciation of their service. We will be holding the raffle drawing. The speaker will be Mr. Gustavo Angeles – Environmental Justice Coordinator, Sierra Club Virginia Chapter.
Mr. Angeles will explain how local residents can assert their right to live in a clean, healthy, and safe community. Gustavo will discuss the Environmental Justice movement, as it relates to Green Ridge’s proposed Mega-Landfill and will discuss similar projects and how they are being impacted by environmental justice activities. Gustavo will share ideas about how to identify and highlight the threats and negative impact that Green Ridge will have on the community. He will also share ideas about how to unite, organize, build coalitions, strategize, and take action in order to voice our concerns and opposition.
Vote on Tuesday! Then on Sunday, come out and honor our vets! Eat some goodies! Join in on the Raffle! And partner with Sierra Club in the effort to Stop the Mega Landfill/Dump! And have a great week!
