We are looking forward to seeing you this Sunday at our monthly Community Townhall Meeting! Everybody is invited to join us this Sunday November 11th from 3:00 to 5:00 at The Cumberland County Community Center, located at 11 Davenport Road. All in an effort to Stop the Dump!
Our special speaker will be Gustavo Angeles, who is The Environmental Justice Coordinator with The Sierra Club Virginia Chapter. He will discuss the Environmental Justice movement, as it relates to Green Ridge/County Waste’s proposed Mega-Landfill and share how similar projects are being impacted by environmental justice activities. Gustavo will share ideas about how to identify and highlight the threats and negative impact that Green Ridge/County Waste will have on the community. He will also share ideas about how to unite, organize, build coalitions, strategize, and take action in order to voice our concerns and opposition. Come out and learn how local residents can assert their right to live in a clean, healthy, and safe community.
We will share the current status of the proposed mega landfill process and next steps. We will have petitions available for signatures, informational cards with the online address for you to take and pass along to your friends/family, we will have draft letters to share. We will also have opportunities for you to donate towards the legal effort, participate in fund raising, and other volunteer efforts.
There will be Veteran’s Appreciation, a Raffle [tickets will be available for sale and drawing with three prizes-12 gauge shot-gun, local artist side table, and a $50 gift card], goodies to eat, time to socialize, have questions answered, and get to know your community.
Spread the word! Bring a friend! Tell a neighbor! Feel free to bring goodies to share. See you on Sunday!
