The week of March 8, 2020, promises to be a busy one. Below are just a few items that come to mind:
- Sunday – March 8 – Daylight savings time starts at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. Remember to move your clocks forward one hour.
- Sunday – March 8 – Community Townhall meeting at 3 p.m. at the Community Center located at 11 Davenport Rd (corner of 45 and Davenport), Cumberland, VA. Guest speaker is State Senator G. Hashmi from District 10. We are honored and pleased that she is taking time to speak to our group. She is the patron of Senate Bill 409 which is carried over to the 2021 General Assembly session. This meeting will start promptly at 3 p.m. as Senator Hashmi has another engagement immediately following this one.
- Tuesday, March 10 – Cumberland County Board of Supervisors regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse in Cumberland. This is a good way to stay in tune to what is happening in the County. You also have the opportunity to speak at these meetings during the Public Comment Period. All you have to do is sign in on the sheet located at the back of the room. Let your presence be seen and your voice be heard.
- Wednesday, March 25 – Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is presenting a general informational session at the Cumberland Middle/High School Cafetorium, 16 School Rd, Cumberbland, VA 23040, on the landfill process in Virginia. They will be reviewing the procedures they use. Following the presentation, there will be a question and answer period, where DEQ staff members will answer general questions related to the DEQ process. NOTE: this is a general information session and questions should be general in nature and not directly concerning the proposed mega landfill in Cumberland. That meeting will be held at a later.
Plan to attend the Community Townhall meeting on Sunday to meet and hear Senator Hashmi. Following Senator Hashmi’s presentation, we will provide updates on key areas concerning the proposed mega landfill. “There is strength in unity” and everyone plays an important part in this endeavor. See you on Sunday!! Remember to set your clocks ahead by one hour so you won’t be late.
