Welcome to June 2020. This is the first day of the last month for the first half of the year 2020. What an unusual year it has been so far with the pandemic and other major news issues across the State, the Nation, and the World.
JUNE CCLA COMMUNITY TOWNHALL MEETING is set for June 14, 2020 at 3 p.m. This a virtual meeting and easy for you to join. It can be accessed by going to https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/290044005 or dial in by phone at 1-571-317-3112 and enter access code 290-044-005. The format of the meeting will be similar to the May meeting with members of the Leadership providing updates in various areas. Change: we ask you send your questions/comments in advance to NoMegaLandfill@LoveCentralVA.com. This is requested to make it smoothier on the day of the meeting. Questions will also be taken during the meeting.
Last week we asked you to e-mail the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors, and many of you did. We appreciate that very much. Keep on sending the e-mails and other contacts and let them know we are serious in stopping the proposed mega landfill.
It is two years since the citizens of Cumberland and Powhatan counties became officially aware of the proposed mega landfill for Cumberland County. At this meeting we will reflect on the last two years and the many changes we have seen. We will also provide an update on what CCLA is currently doing as we continue our fight to prevent this proposed mega landfill. This update will include recent correspondence with DEQ and the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors.
One subject we will address at this meeting is CCLA’s request to the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors to provide us with clarification of several items reported at committee hearings on the landfill bills during the General Assembly Session in January/February by Green Ridge/County Waste. On March 4th we personally provided to the Cumberland County Administrator a letter addressed to the Board of Supervisors (copy attached), a spreadsheet detailing our concerns (copy attached), and the audio of the hearings. CCLA received a response from the Board of Supervisors dated April 30th (copy attached) which did not address any of our concerns. We then sent a rebuttal letter (copy attached) to the Board of Supervisors again asking them for clarification of the items addressed in the March 4th letter. We are still waiting for their reply which has a due date of June 20th. We are asking you, as concerned citizens, to review these documents and let the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors know we NEED them to answer our concerns!!
CCLA thanks each of you for your support in this endeavor. It may take a while, but WE WILL WIN!!
