The past seven days were busy what with the General Assembly in session and trying to stay up-to-date on various bills. This General Assembly session has been very unusual to say the very least. First it is virtual to include all the committee hearings and no in-person meetings.
CCLA owes Senator Hashmi a lot more than what words can express for efforts to get environmental bills passed. She was successful with Senate bills 1318 and 1319 as both of these passed through committee. SB1319 was watered down with the deletion of the requirement to be a hold on new landfills or expanding existing landfills until an in-depth review was completed. Even though Senator Hashmi stated these bills concerned the entire state, people opposing the bill made it an issue about the proposed Cumberland County landfill. This was very discouraging since for the last two years we were told the proposed landfill was a local issue. Interesting how the tide turns from one year to the next. Senator Hashmi, THANK YOU for your hard work on these bills, and your continued support. It is greatly appreciated.
