Hope everyone survived the ice storm – that you have power and did not suffer any damage.
General Assembly Update
The 2021 General Assembly Session is now in a 15-day special session. The delegates continue to review the senate bills and the senate continues to review the delegates bills. So there is still time for you to contact your representatives and ask them to support environmental bills like Senate Bill 1318 and House Bill 2074.
You can also contact them and ask them NOT to support Senate Bill 1164 which would allow corporations such as Braven Plastics to start the business without going through the process of getting DEQ permits. Braven is a company coming to Cumberland County that would take plastics and recycle them into other products, i.e. petroleum products. The bill calls for the plastics to be classified as “raw materials” which a plastic bottle is not.
February Townhall Meeting
Due mainly to the weather, we did not have a large attendance at our Townhall meeting yesterday. Trudy Berry, our guest speaker, had to cancel since she was without power and make be out for a week or more. Trudy is an advocate and supporter since this all started back in June 2018. She is going to run for the Delegate position for District 61 which includes Amelia, Cumberland, Mecklenburg, Nottoway and part of Lunenburg counties. She is looking for residents of these counties to sign her petition so her name can be placed on the ballot. You can do this by going to the following link: trudyberryfordelegate@gmail.com.
Our scheduled speaker for the March Townhall meeting is Delegate Lee Ware from Powhatan. The date for the meeting is March 14, 2021 and we hope to have an in-person meeting. Mark your calendars now.
Roadside Banners
A request was made last week for people living along main roads in Cumberland and surrounding counties, to let us know if you are willing to put a banner on your property. We had two responses (thank you) and will put them up as soon as the weather breaks. In the meantime, if you would be willing to place a banner on your property, business or residential, please let us know by e-mailing us at NoMegaLandfill@LoveCentralVA.com. There is no cost to you – just send an e-mail.
