Happy St. Patrick’s Day
Summary of Community Townhall Meeting
CCLA held the March Community Townhall meeting virtually yesterday, Sunday, March 14, 2021. It was well attended considering it was a virtual meeting and such a beautiful day.
Delegate Lee Ware was the guest speaker and he provided us with a lot of information and pointers. A Press Release is in the works and we are waiting for Delegate Ware’s approval of the document before sharing it. He broke his presentation into three categories: (1) General Observation; (2) Two Bills Presented During the 2021 General Assembly; and, (3) Recent Conversation he had with DEQ Director Paylor.
All three segments were very interesting. Senate Bill (SB) 1318 went a long way for getting approval but at the end did not make it – the cost was prohibitive. However, SB 1319 was approved by both the House and Senate and is now on the Governor’s desk for approval.
Delegate Ware held a question and answer period after his presentation and several of those attending asked questions related to various subjects. For example, one person questioned why both the state and federal entities spend so many dollars for the clean-up of the Chesapeake Bay, when steps can be taken to avoid the need for the clean-up.
Request for Assistance
If you have a background in public relations and/or advertising, CCLA needs your help. We are in a phrase where there is a need to keep the public informed. This is not an easy task. We use our website as one means of keeping supporters informed; however, our messages are not reaching everyone. There are people in Cumberland and surrounding counties that do not have computer access and hence cannot access the website. The closest newspaper for Cumberland is over 35 miles from the Cumberland Courthouse and not many people receive it. We know we need to get our messages out to ALL supporters and looking for your assistance. If you have a few hours to help in this area, please send an e-mail to NoMegaLandfill@LoveCentralVA.com.
2020 was a rough year in so many ways for so many people. CCLA felt the effects of the pandemic in two key areas – inability to have in-person meetings and unable to have fundraisers. However, we still incurred expenses we had to pay. The Eager Beavers did meet and are making plans for fundraisers as COVID19 restrictions are lifted.
We still have t-shirts available for $12 for small through XL and $13 for XXL on up. If interested in purchasing one of these shirts, please e-mail NoMegaLandfill@LoveCentralVA.com.
CCLA Leadership Team members decided to offer the yard signs for free. They are available in three different designs and in both single and double sided. It is better to have the yard signs in your yard rather than sitting in a box. Again, if interested, please e-mail NoMegaLandfill@LoveCentralVA.com. Stakes to use on the signs are also available.
We have a limited supply of the new roadside banners available. We have 4 feet high by 8 feet wide in single and double sided. We also have 2 feet high by 3 feet wide double sided. These signs are getting a lot of attention, which is good. If you don’t see the size you would like, please let us know and we can order more.
Appreciation to All Supporters
