*URGENT CALL AND WRITE STATE SENATORS AND HOUSE DELEGATES TODAY* This is YOUR chance to say NO to any more Mega Landfills in Virginia. It is extremely important to call State Senators and Delegates IMMEDIATELY to ask them to support the two bills written to stop the development of Mega Landfills in Virginia. Senator Hashmi's Senate Bill 409 (SB 409) L*ocal Impact from large landfills* is written to require DEQ to issue in writing what impacts to local water, soil, and air quality are expected from the construction and operation of a mega landfill. Delegate Sam Rasoul's House Bill 1038 (HB 1038)* Solid waste management facility; permit for landfill with capacity of more than 35 million tons *is written to require DEQ to determine that the amount of capacity in excess of 35 million tons will serve a public interest that outweighs any additional harms to human health and safety and the environment caused by such capacity in excess of 35 million tons. The very first step in this process is to *call/email* (or both) the members of both committees in the Senate and House to express your support of each bill. I have attached two documents containing contact information for the individual committee members who will be voting on these bills in the coming days and weeks. We *must call before* the bills are placed on committee dockets or agendas. Keep it short and simple when calling and writing committee members. Ask that they vote in support of SB 409 and HB 1038. Virginia is already a leading importer of out of state trash and does not need to build additional mega landfills to accommodate the waste from other states. Please forward this information to as many groups and people as possible and please encourage your family and friends to make these extremely important calls. Just copy and paste these email addresses into the Recipient field to make things easier for you.
